So a while back I posted up about Cons and Cannons and what I was doing with my camera back then.. Let's just say that a LOT has changed. I have a few videos under my belt getting some good rotation out there in the world. I'm proud of the work I've done so far and looking forward to what's on the horizon. My thoughts on the Shooting in Tuscon, AZ.

First off - RIP to all those lost in this violent and cowardly act. My thoughts have returned more than once to the 9 year old girl who was killed - but only because I have a particular disdain for violence against innocent children. That does not diminish the loss of the other victims by any means though. May their souls rest in peace and for those injured - my prayers for a speedy and FULL recovery.

This commentary is about the blame game that reared its ugly head just about as fast as it took for this coward to bring our countries conscience to a collective halt. Very soon after the events - the local county sheriff made remarks indicating that the nations current political climate and the irresponsible tone of rhetoric could be to blame. Then at an even faster rate came the rebuttals that it was "not the time to lay blame" or to "politicize" this tragic event.

Politicians began setting an Olympic pace to get away from any tie-in's to past statements or actions that could be associated with the rhetoric. And the began media doing a two-faced two-step that would win Dancing with the Stars. Both dodging any responsibility for "fanning the flames" and at the same time bringing up every kind of example of it in their coverage - Asking "is this really true?". That's like asking someone if they are innocent (of course they say yes) then asking them if they have skeletons in their closet -and watching that painfully predictable moment of pause while they consider whether or not to lie to your face.

Here's what I think -summed up in two cliche statements.

Its all fun and games until someone gets hurt (or shot)- and - The truth hurts.

Do I think one person is to blame. Yes. This cowardly shooter. (I really don't have any concern about his mental state).

However, I do NOT think that absolves the rest of us from any responsibility for our actions and behavior. Things have been said and done to stoke the fears and hate that is out there for political gain. That is the truth and there is FAR too much evidence to deny that. Its kind of like a person that lets a firecracker off in a room full of gangsters with loaded guns. Is he responsible for pulling the trigger? No. But maybe he should take a few minutes in a catholic confessional you know what I saying?

With regard to the truth hurts. There have been plenty of times through history where a violent incident has given light to the state of a nation or the world for that matter. Causing us to pause and reflect -and if there was any good that came of this incident -its that. That we need to stop and say "hold up" -I need to watch what I say because I don't know where the ripple effect of this is going to end up. See the big picture. Think before you speak, and so on and so on. There is a reason these cliche statements have lived on for years. THEY ARE TRUE.

For us to take notice of what led to this event is a very small price to pay - considering all that was lost. Don't be cheap - let's face it - learn from it and move on. Or else these people really did die for nothing.

Cons with Cannons

Don't let the title of this post throw you off. Its just a reference to a creative title I was tinkering with (as in Nikons with Canons). My new hobby of the last year and half or so has just had a HUGE growth spurt. In the form of my new Canon 60D.

Its been a while since I posted and I guess that had more to do with just focus on other things in my life and a lack of passion for the written word. I realized that my passion for blogging was more about creating a stream of thoughts to be viewed and commented on. In retrospect that a very limited scope (not because its written just because on these days a person net attention span is about 5 minutes tops). Politics was getting boring (how much can I rail against Obama haters and ultra-conservatives and am I really changing them? Probably not). I reserve the right from time to time to comment on that here (its my blog and I'll cry if I want to). But since this is my outlet to the world I thought I just introduce you to my new passion - VIDEO!.

So here is everything that I've shot and or edited in the last 2 weeks since I got the camera. Let me know what you think. Gotta get some better editing software and another laptop but until then Practice Practice Practice. As always Feedback is well appreciated.

Job Well Done

I haven't posted in a minute (I know - I am sorry). But I've been really busy lately. But last night? Last night - it all came together. Although I hesitate to ever call anything a perfect storm - last night was a really good one. You all know I throw events with my crew SYGU. We've had a notable event called Teese (as in graphic t-shirts) since 2007. This is our 5th time doing it in 4 years - and to say its grown successfully is an understatement. Its one thing to build a brand - but to continue to grow it -that's something else.

Lately, I spent a lot of time wondering why we don't get the accolades we deserve all the time - awards, sponsorships, media coverage. But then I began to understand that what makes us so good at what we do is that we don't wait for those accolades to come along and propel us or define us. We do what we do - and people appreciate it. I think about all the people that stop me in my party to say that are having a great time - or celebrating another success with my SYGU brethren -and really - that's all the thanks I need. I remember now - to quote a Drake lyric - we are "into making history, not into making friends". We may have spent a tad too much time on the latter. Guess what's not going to happen anymore. Ahem.

But - anyway. I wanted to show you what is was like to be there last night in this great moment. We packing out concert venues now...no time to turn back.. time to get bigger and better.

Random Thoughts

I gotta admit lately I've been feeling like its the last days. All these earthquakes, a volcano eruption. I mean I can't recall a time in my life (30+ years) that there has been this much geo-activity. I'm just saying.

It befuddles me that people STILL haven't noticed that Republicans only agenda is to block/stop/delay anything that the Obama administration is trying to get done. Like ANYTHING. The White House can be like -" we've found the cure for cancer" - and some of these GOP /Tea Party idiots would be like "give me my cancer or give me death!" - "Cancer vaccines?!!? Its Socialism!" - "Cure Cancer? Its too much change too fast" (I never really understood why you have to move slowly to fix a problem. I know that's how I want my problems taken care of - fast.).

The only place they really have me morally divided is on immigration. I kinda feel them on that one. Its pretty black and white to me (or brown and white to them). If you are here and you aren't supposed to be--you gotta go. I don't really like these retro-active laws because they are a slippery slope to discrimination and profiling on a level not seen since colonial-era witch hunts. But I do believe something has to be done. Personally I would have focused my attention and resources to preventing people from crossing the border and documenting everybody going in or out of the country. I just think that is more of a fair process. The current process is like "indian giving" (excuse the ignorant term but I'm trying to make a point) - to give people something (false peace of mind and time to develop roots here -because its cheaper not to enforce the law) - and then snatch it back when you feel the time is right. Fix the problem on the front end.

My wife and I are nearing the completion of our first year of marriage (April 25th - gifts welcome- thanks)- man that went by fast. But at the same time the wedding seems like such a long time ago for me. Its weird. Buts its been a good year. Some forward progress made. So that's always good. What made me think of that is I saw that on ABC News Tonight - they are supposed to have some forum on "why successful black women can't find a man (particularly a successful black male one)". You'll have to excuse me but I think this topic is getting a bit worn. I would have thought by now with all the research, panel discussions, books, and Tyler Perry movies it would be evident that this is not TRULY a problem. Its an obstacle. Not a mission impossible. What frustrates me is that I see a whole industry designed around fostering this belief. I watched shows like "What Chili Want's" and "NBA Wives" and just about anything else on TV - and when it comes to the sisters - its about fighting over, competing for, settling for, or hopelessly searching for a man (and whack ones at that). I would shrug it off as entertainment-but then I start seeing these wannabes in the street and it makes me even MORE happy that I'm married (love ya baby). Its time to tune out the TV and turn up the conversation. Really get to knowing each other as people and letting that be your guide. Because I can assure you Tiny and Toya are not gonna get you down the aisle.

My online fam. I've had a few discussions as of late about Twitter and Facebook and their place in the world. Especially with respect to family business and personal information or whereabouts. I kinda have two thoughts about this. Yes you should protect your privacy -as much as you feel comfortable with. If you don't feel comfortable twit-pic-ing your tour around Egypt. Do you. But this is a very different world we live in. If your taking a week long vacation - you can't just set the timer on the lights anymore. Once you tell anybody that you are going out of town -its not just whether or not YOU post something but you gotta worry about whomever else has access to your page, wall, etc...So look if you don't want somebody to know something. Don't say a word about it. Don't blame it on Facebook or twitter. I'm closer to an open book. I'm not stupid -but I just don't feel I should have to live in fear at home or abroad or on my facebook page. You only have a certain amount of control of anything in this world. Everything else you buy insurance for. Stop worrying so much - if you don't the terrorist win (I just felt like saying that there).

I posted the response below on CNN.com to an article about White House Social Secretary Desiree Rogers stepping down. The comments section on the article had a number of darts being thrown at the President himself and it just sparked a flame in me. I'm tired of these people

I am so sick of all these Right-Wing, Conservative-Crazy, GOP, Tea-bagger or whatever other name this month you can come up with -HATING on the President and his agenda. WHERE IS YOUR PLAN!?.. I'm not calling you racist. I'm asking you WHERE IS YOUR PLAN? Should there be a LOYAL OPPOSITION? YES - BUT WHERE IS YOUR PLAN!!!?????!?!

You jump off a cliff with "Oh he said unemployment wouldn't go above 8% now its at 10%". Of course it went up - you all been throwing acid in the mix since day one - slowing down EVERYTHING He's trying to do to help!

But where is your plan? Everything is typical "PARTY OF NO" or "PARTY OF SLOW". I haven't seen any one plan on the part of the Republicans or Conservatives in general to fix any of the problems the country is facing. 90% of anything coming out there mouths is about what's wrong with what the Pres. Obama is doing - not about the GREAT ALTERNATIVE PLAN that they have. Because they don't have one. Never have - and probably won't ever have one. Because they don't spend ANY time on it. They would rather go on a witch hunt for every Democrat, White House Staffer, etc. , etc. etc. (like this poor lady) in an attempt to embarrass this President and his administration. Or go on TV and twist the specifics or flat out LIE about legislation like Health Care Reform.

Sponsoring a bill and then voting against it? Since when does that make sense. Maybe Republicans are more like Toyota staffer -"uh I'll build the car - but there's no way you'll get me to drive it". That's sounds like a A+ plan (not).

You all just need face the truth - your true desire and efforts are for this administration and this President to fail -and that doesn't make you PATRIOTS it makes you cowardly Sabotage artist afraid of change.

My Solution for Broken Government...

First off - let me apologize for not posting more often. I've been really busy in general and some things came up here and there that demanded my attention. Moving right along.

So I've been giving some side-eye attention to the latest CNN news series on "Broken Government". The stories basically are trying to dig into why the political process takes so long in most cases and is completely stagnant in a lot of others. It also explores the lack of trust we as citizens have in our political leaders (something that actually not a new trend by any means).

On both questions I'd have to say that I fit exactly what they are describing. It is beyond me how people who profess to be leaders can't seem to compromise on ANYTHING in order to get SOMETHING done. Officials are so busy focusing how to keep their job they've forgotten to DO their job (which really isn't a "job" its an honor and privilege something I think they've forgotten). Its not all their fault - we are just as much to blame. How? I'm glad you asked because I've been dying to say this - BECAUSE WE ELECT THE SAME LAME BRAIN, PLAIN JANE, INSANE IN THE MEMBRANE, -whack jobs into office over and over again.

These people are more interested in the sound of their voice, and position in the party than the promises that we expect them to keep. When they don't get anything done -we listen to some 20 second ad saying how they "stood up to big government" and "fought to lower your taxes" sponsored by "Thisisntreallyfromourelectioncampaignfundseventhoughitis.com". And its all BS but we believe it anyway...or even worse we don't believe it and then we DON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT (i.e. - putting them right back on the bench come next election). It is my sincere belief that if the standard for staying in Washington D.C. was actually GETTING SOMETHING DONE (that can be verified without question) then we'd have leaders more focused on spending time on task and less time on TV.

As citizens we have the most important weapon for control of government - our vote. But its power has been skillfully reduced by adding RIDICULOUS amounts of inefficiency to the political process. So much in fact that most citizens have lost their faith that their vote has any effect at all. This is sad. To make matters worse - we only exercise our political strength at times when a certain level of vanity is involved. I love President Obama but I am not a fool. I know that a lot of people voted for him AND the HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE of a first black President. I could tell because of how proud we were as a country that this "threshold" of sorts had been cost. "Look at us world -we are now a "post-racial society! - and if you believe that we'll sell add on a super safe TOYOTA too!". Don't get me wrong - I think we as a country made the right decision for the right reasons. I just think that we started feeling ourselves a little too much for the wrong reasons. Too many people adopted this "the battle is over -we HAVE overcome" attitude. Hogwash I say. The good thing is that I hope people remember how good it felt in that moment. To win one - by a couple of touchdowns too. With a team of all kinds of people. But I fear its more like the Boston Red Sox winning the World Series and then all the major players being traded immediately after (how you gon' break up the Temptations people!??!!??). You get the win and then everyone loses the spirit and spend the next four years in a "rebuilding" phase. Wackness.

Look I see this whole process as a cancer that we are trying to fix with Chemotherapy. And its only making us more sick. I say remove the tumor as a whole and give us the power back to choose for ourselves!

Here is what I propose. Instead of wasting time putting trying to pass bills through Congressional votes - put them back regular quarterly ballots for a popular vote (enough with this electoral college BS). Its too much to have the bills come up at random all the time -that would be hard to organize. But we would have a major popular vote every 3 months. The only thing that Congress would do is to serve as a filter of sorts to keep the legislation effective overall and helping craft the laws. During the vote the people could vote to accept a bill as law with a yes vote or reject it with a no vote. If they agree only partially with the bill then they can vote on any proposed amendments that have been presented on the legislation. Majority wins.

Look if American Idol can do this - we should be able to as well. I refuse to even entertain any notion that it can't be done (as a matter of fact that's the same reason I'm proposing this at all). Its a simple solution to a huge problem. But isn't that what we all want? A less complicated process. Something that works? That we have a fair, loud, and effective say in? I think this can work I really do.

But then again what do I know? I'm just a citizen.

Personal Survey -Am I an open book?

I tried out this site called www.formspring.me that actually host a survey for you. People can ask you questions (anonymously if they want) and you get to respond. Its kinda cool to see what people what to know about you. Although I honestly have to say I'm not "surprised" at

some of the questions I got. Anyway -since I'm suffering from my latest case of writers block - I figured I'd share -until I can come up with something more juicy. Enjoy.

Do you love your job? if you didn't what would you do instead?

Can't say that I do. I used to want to be an astronaut when I was a kid. But now maybe run for office? What u think?

What office? local, state, national? is there something in your closet that would cause you to change your mind? something that happened while you were in college?

I don't know actually. Haven't given it THAT much thought. I'm sure there plenty stupid stuff from that era of my life that would tick off a conservative or two (hundred). Yeah now that I think about it that would concern me - people being all up in the business like that.

Was your relationship always sunshine and rainbows? was there a time when you wanted to call it quits? what made you stay?

Relationships are NEVER ALWAYS sunshines and rainbows. There are always times when you "think" you want to call it quits. Its really nothing more than average frustration. As with anything in life worth having it takes work. My motivation to stay? Knowing what life was like without her.. Reflection is a gift from God we don't use enough.

Do you have regrets? If so care to share?

Nothing more than the usual. Paying more attention in school. An investment here or there. But aside from that.. I think I am where I am supposed to be. No regrets.

When did you know that your wife was "The One"?

She took the time to throw me a surprise birthday party once - and it was great - filled with people that mattered. I really saw that she understood me - It was during that party I decided I was going to marry her. I went to the jewelry store the next day.

Was your decision to settle down more about the right person or the right time? Which do you think comes first?

Its not a factor of "more" or "less" - although I will say that you need to be in the right space mentally in order to meet and accept the right person. I would say that means it has to be the right time first--but I can't because I've always believed that the right person can inspire you to be ready for that transition. So again its not what came first the chicken or the egg..its more like a perfect storm of variables.

What's the most important tip/key/advice you could give to a single woman in today's society?

Be patient. If you think there is someONE for you. Then that means there are a lot more that ARE NOT. Being single is just the time wading through those people. Spend time on self - making life better for you so that when you do meet that right person. Its more about bringing them along for the ride - and joining them on theirs.

What is the best gift someone's ever given you?

My life...then my wife.

Thoughts on MLK Day...

I saw an news flash that said there is now less people than a year ago - who believe that our President represents a large shift in racial relations. However, a majority still feel that his election DOES signify some progress.

I'd agree with that assessment. What pains me is that nobody really seems to care about it. I mean that people are still debating the same kinds of problems in the same way - getting us the same results. Those "results" could often be accurately described as "very little progress if any" (that's my own quote - ahem). Political parties are content to attempt push one agenda (their own) while pummeling their oppositions - for the sake of the win - not the sake of the people. My complaint with the whole process is when people make COMPLAINTS about options given as solutions but have no credible options of their own. Race fits into that category.

If I hear one more person talk about a double standard, or why they are scared to comment for fear of being viewed as racist I am going to scream. The truth is THERE ARE DOUBLE STANDARDS and there are PEOPLE WHO ARE RACIST. We don't need to tip-toe around it or hide it. We know these things. Where the problem comes in - is when people say in private what they won't say in public (Insert Sen. Harry Reid or Rev. Jesse Jackson joke here). Then there is this cloud of secrecy like you are hiding something from me. If that is the case - why should I trust you? You obviously don't trust me right? Right - blah blah blah.. Old news.

This problem is like a cancer. Like drug or alcohol abuse. America and the world's addiction to it runs deep - centuries deep. So why do people expect this to be fixed in a year (the historical equivalent to the blink of an eye)? Just like addicts we need some self help groups. Some face time with each other. Yeah there may be some screaming at the top of our lungs. But make sure thats screaming OUT about what you feel and not AT the other side. We are far too advanced a species to be beyond control of tone and AT LEAST the exploration of context. Of course there is "reaction" to random commentary- it catches you off guard and you have a knee jerk reaction. But in the proper forum you get time to explain your concern, the other person gets tim explain what they mean in what they say - and vice versa.

But how do we act these days? - we pounce on every "he/she mis-spoke" or every joke made in "poor taste". But then pay comedians to do it right out in the open? No wonder we can't figure it out! That makes an oxymoron of "Free Speech" if you ask me.

Is that how we move forward? Is that really honoring the "Dream"? I don't think so. Faith without works is death (James 2:17). ARE WE REALLY WAITING FOR THIS PROBLEM TO FIX ITSELF? Are we that's stupid?

The election of our President WAS the indication of what can be accomplished when people speak out in the even the smallest way (a vote). But now we are silenced again? Ok to return to years of complaining and blaming "the man" or the government. The time for that is past. We've had and HAVE big problems. Its time for us to stop being so quiet. Stop being so ineffective and start working on our problems. Start speaking so that our opponents and neighbors can hear us -but more importantly we make sure to take the time to hear them.

Broken Silence - US (the U.S.) versus the Terrorist...Its Chess not Checkers

I hate that something like this inspired me to post again. But I guess I am just following suit. It takes blood to be shed for us to get the point - or does it. The terrorist attack on the Detroit Delta Flight and on the CIA base in Afghanistan. Shootings at Ft. Hood, the Holocaust Museum, and the Federal courthouse in Las Vegas. Even people crashing the Presidential State Dinner not once but 3 times - in the same night?!? - This has been beyond ridiculous for awhile but now its public and embarrassing. Didn't that used to be enough - where is our pride - or even better our common sense?

The current security measures used by the Dept. of Homeland Security, TSA and other government agencies is a FARCE - comparable to the shenanigans on "Jersey Shore" or other comical "reality shows" (anyone remember that "Homeland Security" reality show?). The equipment out there that is supposed to keep us safe from terrorism and violence? Complete BS! Those x-ray machines detecting weapons or explosive chemicals -is like trying to cook Thanksgiving Dinner with an "Easy Bake Oven".

And to top it off - the PROFILING.... HOW DUMB CAN YOU GET!!!

Aside from being completely racist its completely ineffective. Why? Because you have to disclose what the profile is in order to justify it. Even if you didn't - it would take about 48 hours for the whole world to know what the profile is. (We just don't live in a "Top Secret" world anymore - lets be honest). Once they know what the profile is? - they change what/who they send at us IDIOTS. The only way to be fair, consistent and effective is to NOT profile and to check EVERYONE the same way. EACH TIME EVERY TIME. I don't care that it will take 3 hours longer to be at the Airport - that's what magazines and ipods are for. I don't care if you FEEL inconvenienced you - you can't FEEL anything if you dead. Or better yet I am not trying to FEEL the burning of my flesh from the flames of a bomb or it pierced by some nuts vengeful bullets. If I can live - I can wait. And so can you. If you can't - do us all a favor and drive - we don't want you bitching in line anyway.

Now I ripped on the technology we do have...(because it sucks).. But there is stuff out there that could do better. But we can't use it because people are whining about not wanting somebody to see them naked. Get over it. I'd rather they see people like this:

Sorry to be so graphic - but I think thats the problem. People aren't visualizing whats the alternative to really beefing up security.

We have people hired and trained to gather intelligence. I need them to get on top of their game and REALLY start connecting the dots - in ADDITION (vs. instead of) to adding real 100% screening methods by our security personnel. If you can tell me who a guy was communicating with via email within hours of them committing a violent act -that means you knew it advance. I really believe that. Stop stockpiling information and use it proactively for something. Its not intel if its after the fact - its history. History never saved anybody until they learned from it. You get a lead FOLLOW-UP ON IT- and find out if ANYBODY else knows anything about it. This inter-department secrecy is a #fail - and its making people looking bad - in the deadly sense of the word.

I'm feeling better now that I've vented. But I don't feel safe. Think about it.

I shot and edited this little piece for the young bruhz at my chapter. I know some of you who read this won't care for the music. But that's not really the point. The point is that I shot this with an $80 video camera and edited it with a program that's been on Aliah's MAC since she got it years ago.. If you put your mind to something its cool what you can come up with. We'll see what I come up with in the future.

In the mean time.. this is pretty cool if I say so myself.

Today is my 32nd Birthday (yes 32 years people). The last year has been quite busy. Of course the best and most important change is I became a husband. Right now I am more proud than anything else. By far. But there are other things that I am proud of too. I've done more travelling this year than I EVER done in one year. That's great -its a big world out there - I'd suggest you check it out. I also had great times with my a lot of my family - some of the happiest times I would say and I am looking forward to more. My friends? I appreciate you all - its good to feel like people are concerned about your success and not just your failures-- thanks for that.

Business is good. SYGU future is looking bright. Let's get it.

What's ahead for year 33? Who knows? All I know is that I can't wait to find out!!

A report came out today saying that the U.S. employment rate slipped closer to 10%. Now I am not economist but I know that can't be good. It hasn't been anywhere near that since the 80's and Reganomics.

One thing that puzzles me about media and political spin when it comes to the unemployment rate - is when they try and depict it in a "good light". Like the unemployment rate "slowed" this week/month/year/etc. Slow or not that's still people losing their jobs right? Why don't we hear about how many people are getting back into the employment stream? Slow rate or not if the amount of people overall continues to grow (vs. just the rate/speed at which that number grows) - doesn't that mean more and more people with reliable income to pay for basic necessities OR elective financial protections (that's insurance people)?

So if the number of people who can't afford to pay for their own health care out of pocket OR through insurance grows daily - who is supposed to pay all of these "affordable" insurance plans via exchange or across state lines? Who is supposed to be able to wait for the time to allow for the market to correct itself and prices to come down on their own - without government intervention?

The public option is the only solution that will remedy (pun intended) this problem. It allows people who can't afford to catch a cold much less cancer to be able to get the health care they so desperately need. To me Universal Coverage or single payer plan would be better - but at least this gives people an "option" to keep what they have if they want too.

I am not really sure how this is going to play out. But I have a feeling that the unemployed are about to speak up.

I love this guy. Because it grew a pair and just went in and said what a lot of Democrats were thinking anyway. Not elected Democrats - us - the voters who put them up there. Where is the fight in them? Don't get me wrong I am all for planning nice and the pursuit of utopian society where everything is worked out in a straight compromise and put to a vote. But these last couple of months have been RIDICULOUS. Seriously.

Its hard for me to criticize Pres. Obama but he is kinda setting the standard here. He has reached across the aisle time and time again only to be burned by the GOP. They turn their nose up at every attempt to bring something to the table and be INCLUDED in this administrations to simply get things BACK on track. How me times will you allow someone to disrespect you and take your kindness for weakness?

The majority of voters in this country elected this President and this Congress into office with a majority -so that they could GET things done and achieve all that they said they would do - without having to worry about intervention from Republicans like back in the Clinton administration. We blatantly told them - "Hey we hate how things are going, we want to try something new - and we want to see it happen - now". Like Sen. Grayson said - there was election - we won - let's get this done. If the GOP doesn't like it - maybe that should invest in a lifetime supply of duct tape for Rush Limbaugh's mouth and do a better job of getting back into the driver seat come the next election (or the one of after that if I have anything to say about it). That is not unfair - this is how our system works.

I think that a lot of big problems require simple solutions -so that they are easier to implement and people understand them better. People can't afford healthcare? Make it cheaper. That' doesn't fix the problem? Make it free. We waste so much money - and sadly enough - times (and lives) with this senseless back and forth. Trying to make sure that each and every liberal, conservative, or independent feels all warm and fuzzy inside about the change coming down the line - is an express ticket to failure. Does anybody remember George W. and crew waiting for us to get on board with something. No? Anyone? Bueller?

Right. That's because it didn't happen geniuses.

You ever heard of "Too many Chiefs not enough Indians"? - that's what we have here. Failure of leadership - TO LEAD. You have the steering wheel - now drive! Yeah, yeah so what you have a loud conservative passenger in the back complaining at every turn - turn your music up, roll the window down and go even faster - let them eat wind. That's what I think Rep. Grayson -did. He turned that volume up - and I am glad that he did.

For all of the comments about name calling. I say send those boo-hoo notes to Sen. Joe Wilson. He called the President a liar - an insult because it in fact was not true at all. Rep. Grayson called the GOP out for what it is. He probably could have found a "nicer" way of saying it - but I am sure he was moved by all those Tea Party and Town Hall tirades. If you can't take it - don't dish it out.

This might be my new joint for a while. I have always liked this group lyrically except when it comes to content. I haven't seen any parts of a trap house and while they always impressed me with their intricate rhymes - I think they were often "trapped" talking about cocaine cowboy type escapades.

Well they may have returned to the spotlight on this one and taken the hint on the way. This is a nice groove not to far off their hit formula (i.e. Pharell on the hook) but just far enough (minimal drug references) to get them on the shelf at Target. I have to say though do do have a flow on this song (haven't heard any album yet) more reminiscent of Plies. If I were into gambling - I'd bet on a diss record sometime soon. In the meantime - enjoy the record.

I have been getting a lot better with this video/mobile blogging thing - and I have to admit I REALLY LIKE IT. Anyway - as much as I like it - I have been rather lacking when it comes to the updates to THIS particular blog. My bad.

This video is from my unique experiencing of the day. A ferry ride across the Mississippi. Turns out this wasn't the "Adventure" I made it out to be. The trip took about 10 mins tops - and I caught a flat tire about 25 minutes later out on MO 370 (sucks - threw my whole day off.)

This is what I was talking about when I was saying Hypocrisy. Conservatives mouthpieces are only sure of thing when it comes to where they stand on this issue - its wherever the opposition to prevailing Liberal views are.

With all of the rumors being spread and what not. This video proves the point that the real goal here is to simply defeat Pres. Obama's and his administration on this issue. Because they know there is no coming back from this - they know this will put them in huge minority in the political future. Once people get a taste of "no-worry about how I am going to pay for it" - health care - it's a wrap. They will know who they have to thank for it - and it will be a sad day for standing on the wrong side of this issue - simply because you wanted to get in the way.

I kinda kicked this off in a status message this morning. But after seeing another slew of protests that rudely interrupted healthy debates on this issue - I can no longer hold my tongue (or rather fingers).

After watching days and days of news coverage on this issue. I feel I can sum up where everyone can agree on for this topic.

1) By and large most people agree that the health care system needs to be reform.
2) Any changes that are undertaken need to be set-up in way that they are paid for and do not increase the national deficit.
3) People should have the option to keep what they currently have in place for care whether a change happens or not.

Here is where people don't agree

1) Who or what should pay for these changes or reform.
2) Introducing any government option will effectively erase the private insurance industry (removing your option to choose).
3) How much control you have over whom, what, or where your medical treatment is provided.

Where Attorney General Holder called a nation of cowards on race - it would appear that terminology applies here as well - I just think hypocrites fits better.

Let's keep it simple and just work on the money part shall we?

1) First off - if you are worried about increasing the national deficit you by default already acknowledge that we are in DEBT. The only way to counter DEBT is to pay it off or remove it via some other form of positive credit toward your balance (whatever that may be). I keep hearing people say that "WE" shouldn't have to shoulder the costs of all of this deficit - that's true. However if its "OUR" debt who else should pay for it? The government? (yeah that comes back to you in a tax). Private industry (yeah that comes back to you in price hikes). Foreign countries (uh..we already tried this - hence our current position). So who does that leave?

(insert any Michael Jackson (RIP) Man in the Mirror joke here).

Thats right us. When WE are in debt and in need of services. There is really no way of US getting around it. That means somebody if not everybody is going to have to pay probably taxes to address this issue. Its the ugly truth - and I don't even like to say it (who does really?) - but there is NO way around this issue. We all are going to feel the costs of this economy/deficit/reforms for at least the next few years so here is a clue - GET OVER IT - WHETHER YOU LIKE OR NOT - WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER.

2) We already pay for ALL KINDS of PUBLIC services so this is not a new concept - and I'll let you in a little secret (sssshhhh - don't tell anybody. THE PRIVATE VERSIONS OF THEM ARE DOING JUST OK - who knew?). We have PUBLIC SCHOOLS and PRIVATE SCHOOLS. I haven't heard about any private schools going out of business lately. Have you? We already have PUBLIC DEFENDERS and PRIVATE DEFENSE ATTORNEYS - man when is the last time you heard about an Defense attorney that was getting blown out by those friggin Public Defenders downtown? Don't like how the local Police - "protect and serve"? - Guess what - you can buy or rent your own cops - via security details, private investigators, etc. We even have PUBLIC RESTROOMS and somehow yours seems to still get PLENTY OF BUSINESS. Last time I checked in the battle of PUBLIC vs. PRIVATE - Private side was doing pretty good.. Don't believe me? When is the last time you used one of these?

Imagine that.

My point is that creating a public OPTION - in no way puts in jeopardy whatever businesses are already in place. Having options ALWAYS is a good thing.

3) With regard to this whole "rationing" of treatment or long wait list for getting care. Are you serious? Forgive me - but is it not common for you to have to make an appointment in advance of seeing a doctor or other provider? Do you not make your next appointment MONTHS out in advance when you are on way out the door of your last appointment? Why is waiting to see a doctor all of a sudden the bogeyman? You do this already.. You don't want to wait? You go to an EMERGENCY ROOM - they triage you into the "people who really don't have an emergency but can't wait" category and you get seen that day. They charge you and or your insurance out the roof for coming in there unannounced and then your insurance companies goes back behind your back and cuts that bill in half (or more than that). My point is that this is not a new issue either. You already deal with this.

I haven't seen one part of this bill or anything that people are saying that suggest that you can be made to go see a certain provider without any choice in the matter. Who would agree to that? But what does happen is there are networks (HMO, PPO, O mother hubbard, etc.) - where your insurance is Bishop Don Juan - and because it cost less out of your pocket - you are more "inclined" to go there. This my friends is what we call "steering". Actually its almost illegal but I guess you have your neighborhood lobbyists to thank for that a pass on that one.

Will there be more wait time? Possibly. Its logical to think that if more people have access to care there will be more patients. But God forbid that the hospitals do something insane like- hire more staff - to deal with the higher demand (is that jobs created or jobs saved? I think its both - score 2 for me).

Do I have all the answers - no. But I do know that all this fear mongering is counterproductive and holding us back from our true greatness. People need to get up off their high horse and realize that you can't have it both ways. You can't ignore the problem and expect it to go away. You can't want change for the problem and do nothing to change it. It just doesn't work that way. At all.

MJ Tributes: Pass and Fail (F+)

With so many so quick to trash the man before his body is even cold - its good to see that the legacy lives on - despite the HATERS. Glad to see how this young man defends Mike so well. Good to know that we don't have to call on Rev. Al and Rev. Jackson all of the time. I love how the guy called him out on hypocrisy.

You all already know how I feel about that so-called BET Tribute (I might not ever get over that trash). So in my free time that I have now added to my schedule by boycotting watching anything BET - I have found these really cool and TRUE tributes. I say that they are true because they are coming from real fans. Not just celebrities (who I am sure are fans as well) - but people who the only real connection they had to MJ was the music and that dance. They - or rather we- really did have a lot of love for him.

You know what - Bill O'Reilly - want to make this a solely black/white issue. Black people are the only one protecting MJ or lifting him up? To that I offer this.

Hmmmm..looked like a pretty diverse crowd to me - and a global one to boot. These are coming in from all over the world. Once again the likes of Limbaugh and O'Reilly can do themselves some service and stop being such jackasses. I wonder what people will say when they are gone? Hmmm.. I am guessing that media coverage last about 15 seconds.

But I move on to the funny.

Now the next guy. Aside from being under the water in debt and unable to pay some bills - he has nothing in coming with MJ. However, after watching this video I am almost certain that there is no way to tell him that. This is what we classify a certified grade F- FAIL FAIL FAIL.. Enjoy.

So I have a meeting downtown about my next event (tomorrow - gonna be massive) and I am seeing how the city is getting all spruced up for the all star game weekend. New pavement on streets...buildings get cleaned...even a new park downtown (a nice new park). It made me think - when everyone is crying deficits and recession - where did all the $$$$$ for this come from? I am not mad but I am just saying.. Things that make you go hmmm... And if they were gonna build something why not something that generates more jobs and revenue? I mean a park just sits here. Maybe a staff of 10, 20 maybe? IDK maybe I am off. Anyway money pit or not. Its still a nice day and its good to see them spicing up downtown.

I hadn't even realized until I watched this video - that I haven't even watched BET since the airing of the 2009 BET Awards last Sunday. Apparently my level of disgust has gone subconscious and I am protesting even when I don't realize it - AND when I do. Combat of ignorance is a full time job what can I say.

Anyway I saw this video and while my twitter and facebook rants during the awards show telecast has become the stuff of legend (humble much?) - I have to defer to this guy who is spot on and took it to the cyber-airwaves. Reverse Racism?? I think not..

I know that I am late people. But this one took a little while to boil over in me so here we go.

Shortly after President Obama picked his Supreme Court nominee Judge Sotomayor- all of these charges of "reverse racism" popped up. Some in reference to her now infamous quote:

“I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion [as a judge] than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.”

And now more recently the New Haven 20 case (which she rendered a decision on) has been overturned - and supporters of this are doing so in the name of the war against "reverse discrimination or reverse racism".

Before I start - let me say 2 things.

#1 Props to Judge Sotomayor for her nomination - I have no doubt that she will do a good job. Stop tip-toeing around her nomination.

#2 - I actually agree with the Supreme Courts decision to overturn the ruling regarding the New Haven 20 and let those firefighters have their promotions. But that's where its stops.

There is NO SUCH THING AS REVERSE DISCRIMINATION. Discrimination is discrimination period. It can be projected and reciprocated but the term reverse discrimination is just plain stupid. But that is not what even makes me mad....What gets me going is the "super desperate for any kind of win right wing conservatives" who are twisting this term and the situations its referring to - and that is not right.

The New Haven 20 were not discriminated against. They were cheated out of promotion they deserved but not specifically because they were white (all of those that passed were not white either) - but rather because the city had problem with the outcome of the scores. There were petitioned to try and address it before these men took this test and the city didn't move to do anything about it until AFTER they took the test. Now again, that was wrong on the part of the city - there was standard test - the men passed it - they should get what they deserve. But an error on policy alone doesn't constitute racism or discrimination. At least not in my opinion.

Had the city of New Haven promoted ONLY minority officers and excluded white ones (when both groups were qualified). That would be racism. If they were qualified as a group but REPEATEDLY looked over for promotions in the face of consistent appointments of members of other minority groups - that would be discrimination as well. But this case, this case was not about racism it was about policy and whether or not a city government acted in accordance with the law. Period.

I find it very disturbing that these guys can cry the ultimate foul - when what I described in the paragraph above was (and still is in many fire departments) - how things were done in protection of "white" interests.

You see that's the difference. Discrimination is systematic. Its not random and it doesn't all of a sudden change course. Its bred and perpetuated through hateful thoughts and acts. That is not what happened here. That's not the spirit of Judge Sotomayor comments either. She was simply saying that a person who has had the experience of dealing with a more diverse upbringing for whatever reasons (or whatever race for that matter) - has a qualification that someone who hasn't does not. Did she phrase it poorly? Yes. So what..we'll call her the Joe Biden of the Supreme Court. But you can't get me to believe for one second that all of you college educated experts, pundits, activist, etc. - REALLY believe that. The very fact that you are smart enough to call it out as inappropriate shows me that you can interpret in either direction.

Let's be clear. The charges of "reverse racism" are comparable to "little boy who cried wolf". If you are screaming foul just because the for first time in your life you don't get something you want - doing it in the name of "reverse racism" - cheapens the term. Try marching up some city street or town road with a sign for a cause in the face of those who REALLY hate you. Then tell me about racism. Take up a cause that you KNOW will almost never see the light of day in any court in your lifetime (much less the supreme court) - and then tell me about discrimination.

This...this was nothing. This is a tad uncomfortable. Its cool- the system of white entitlement is in jeopardy - and its a new space for you. Kind of like being the boss of a company one day and then being the new guy at another company the next. Its all good. Fight for your spot and your respect. That's natural - that's survival of the fittest.

But PLEASE stop throwing around that word so freely. Too many people have sacrificed - even the ultimate sacrifice - for you to reduce it to the equivalent of a two-bit curse word or insult. Its not the same. It means so much more.

There is still so much work to do and this is a waste of time.

You know how you wake up one day - and you never know what you are gonna get? Today is one of those days. I can honestly say I wasn't expecting this today. I was looking forward to getting old (I mean real old) before I'd see this day. Yet here it is - and I don't know what to say.

I mean its something alone that the passing of a person moves me or anybody for that matter to comment. But I am POSITIVE that I am not the only person this has affected. Not by a long shot. Thats says something too - that someone that means (not meant) to soooo many people - how many people work hard to matter to a few people. This man was loved by the whole world -almost literally.

One of my earliest memories is going to see Michael Jackson in concert. I think it was 1984 at the Meadowlands in New Jersey (home to the NFL's New York Jets) - and it was the Victory Tour- all of the Jacksons together (even RANDY!). I loved it.

I guess the fact that I even remember something that happened 25 years ago so vividly tells the whole story. My Dad (another Gary native) took me to see the show. It was really odd as I watched the news and music channels shows and all these reporters and great artists were calling in - and some of them saying they never got to see him perform live in person. That makes this memory in particular mean even more 25 yeras later!

Anyway - I want to say that you should cherish your legends and find them as inspiration. To be a legend in your own right.

RIP Michael Jackson. 4ever in our hearts.

On more days than not I'd like to believe that I have grown into a honorable man. While my own decisions and lessons learned have surely had a lot to do with that,nothing has had more to do with it than the TWO men you see in this picture beside me.

I am blessed and honored to be able to say they raised me and still are giving jewels of wisdom to this very day. I am not sure what a card, or a call, or even a blog posting can really do to actually quantify my love, admiration, and respect for not one but both of them - but I am going to post it regardless as a tribute to them.

So with that being said. To any and all fathers who read this. HAPPY FATHERS DAY! You inspire me.

Kanye released this video today for a song off his first album. I wish he would have released it then...not sure how it would have played to me then - but I know how it does now. I CAN RELATE. I was never a BIG fan of the song (GLC and Consequence lyrical
delivery and cadence were a little sub-par to me personally) - but the video takes it home for me.

Somedays, career-wise I ask myself - how did I end up here? I am not a unhappy person in general. But I think this appeals to all those people like myself who maybe feel like you were meant for something greater but haven't got there yet -and are frustrated by it. I hope the message isn't lost on people though. That you have to keep going and sometimes struggle through things until you get your shot - but at the same time keep working to get that shot.

I was reading commentary posted by a close friend of mine regarding ANOTHER senseless act of violence last night. (3 men killed in drive-by after leaving a club). I was compelled to comment (See below) - but it left the question in my head - like what drives people to kill? Really what is THAT important? Even the wars of the last 50 years can't really pull together a consensus on whether or not all those lives lost were done for a "worth cause". That's not to cheapen their sacrifice at all - let me be clear about that. But I am just saying its easy to quote major questions as to the purposes of those conflicts.

I am posting this video because I think it illustrates what really motivates all of this - money. Not the lack thereof - but rather a true profit pursuit. By any means necessary - at the cost of - well - not whatever but whomever.

My family too was touched by senseless violence almost a year ago - and I hate to say it but I still look at many of my brothers and sisters as beyond reach.

A nation of cowards AND idiots - We have SO much to celebrate these days. Instead people would rather eliminate each other for the dumbest reasons - all kinds of things that can be replaced , money, property, pride. What do they take instead ? The one thing that can't be replaced - life.

Shout out to B. Free Paparazzi for the hook up on the FREE Viewing of the new Star Trek Movie last night.

I am not going to go on and on about it but look not only is this a GREAT Star Trek Movie (best in the franchise if you ask me) - this is a GREAT movie. I am certain that old fans will be more than satisfied and the uninitiated will soon be "assimilated". LOL.

If I had to describe this movie - its like take every "what if" question you ever had about Star Trek, and every folk-lore saying about Star Trek (ala - Capt. Kirk will sleep with even a green woman - yes they go there), mix them up and take out the restraints of having a 40+ year old cast (a la' the first Star Trek movie) or the culture handcuffs of the late 60's (a la the original series) - THEN put that mix on some Manny Ramirez steroids (sorry couldn't resist) - and then you would have this STAR TREK.

Basically I say all of that to say this - GET OUT ON A THURSDAY AND GO SEE THE MOVIE!

Well as I am sure you know we are back from Aruba -- I miss it already - A LOT. Such is life.
While we were there we did happen to make a quick steal of a deal on a new digital camera that
takes great mini-movies as well. So instead of the same teaser pics I have been posting lately - I thought I would go for the gusto and post a video instead!

The footage is from our favorite discovery of the entire week in Aruba - Baby Beach. It really was a beautiful beach. White sand and clear water - you can literally walk for 100 yards or more and still not even be knee high in the water (or step to the right or left and be floating in 15 feet deep blue water).

If there was ever a "favorite place in the world" - this is going to be way high on our list.

"How do you know you are ready to be married?"

I get this question a lot from different people. To be honest I have even asked myself that question. My confidence in whether or not I am ready has never really faltered. But where I have struggled (apparently) is in finding a way to convey this to the masses. I mean there is way too many of you to KEEP explaining this over and over again (BTW - why are there so many of you anyway?)

When questioning yourself about anything especially in terms of "readiness" it requires that you take an assessment of not only where you are and where you've been- most importantly where you come from. When I look at the people in my life that helped me become who I am today - I realized something.

I COME FROM GOOD STOCK.

The bible says that "a man does not live on bread alone" and that "as a man disciplines his son, so the Lord your God disciplines you" (Det 8:3-4). To me- that means that I am not a man simply because I am male. Instead, I am the sum of years of instruction and influence. So if there is ever a question as to what kind of man I am or what kind of husband or father I will be - look at the men around me and you'll see.

I COME FROM GOOD STOCK.

"He who finds a wife find what's good and favor from the Lord" (Pro. 18:22)

You know some people even have the AUDACITY to ask "How do you know she is the one?". Here again it's implied that there is some assessment which led me to the OBVIOUS (smile) conclusion that she is not only from good stock - but the BEST stock for me. Let's be real people. There is ALWAYS an assessment but that is not really the point. If you question how I know she is the one - just look at the women who have raised and help raise me and the answer is obviously -

I KNOW GOOD STOCK WHEN I SEE IT (ha! - thought you had it figured out didn't you).

To sum it all up - you really never know that answers to any of these questions. At first at least. I didn't just choose Aliah based off of some checklist or because she makes me feel good. I did it because in my heart, mind, and spirit this was not only what I wanted to do but what I was led to do. I prayed on - I got my answer - and here we are people. We are not fools - we are aware of the high divorce rate and the odds being stacked against it. But if you go into it with something that when the times get rough its stock goes up - not down - you'll be better off. I have FAITH that this will work - and in the end that's enough to keep off the cold feet. Is that a guarantee for a "till death do us part" - Nope.

God helps those that helps themselves - this is not in the bible but its a common phrase used by Christians and I think it applies here. Just as an example that when you ask for somebody to help you - its not really help if you let them do it FOR you (vs. with you). Faith in this case is no different. I can ask him for help all I want - but if we don't work 100% at this ourselves - we will be in trouble. I am committed to that -and I am sure that she is. So with all that said - why should I have any "cold feet"?

Here is the best part though - Cold feet or not. We don't have to prove anything to anyone but each other. I have her vote and she has mine. I think its pretty evident. And if you can't see it...

Maybe you need to look at some other stocks to invest in. Namely your own. (that's meant with all love.. no salt. I promise!).

Tef Poe vs. The Neo Nazis

There was a Neo-Nazi Rally today in St. Louis down at the arch grounds.

As required a group of anti-protesters also showed up and (ahem) showed

out - so to speak.

The most notable of these protesters was my associate and local STL Hip-Hop

M.C. - Tef Poe. He literally showed his a$$ and just happened to make the papers

at the same time. Doesn't look like much came of it (no arrests I mean). Hopefully

I'll see him when I stop the H2 - Hip Hop Open Mic tonight at Cusamanos.

Had a few minutes to kill while I get my haircut so I figured I'd post something.

Man! Its like a week to the wedding festvities. I am excited! Of course there is the natural stress of planning something this big (I think there's gonna be 400+ at the ceremony) but overall my mood is excited.

I guess my posts go kinda far. I heard that people are hearing about those bachelor party pics (see previous post) and people have stopped giving me negative advice (well most people - some folks are just beyond jaded). But I think its crazy that so many people take even the slightest interest. I am not having an ego moment - I am just appreciating the flip side that no one could care and that would be just as fine. But they do. That makes me feel good as a person. To have more people rooting for than against me (lord knows there's enough haters right?).

I guess I say all of that to say...near or far thanks for having my back!

Regarding advice on marriage...

Obviously since it became public knowledge that nuptials were in my near future. People have felt obligated to give me all sorts of advice. Some solicited - mostly not. That's okay I guess - when its done in the right spirit.

But all too often I get the random negativity and well - it annoys me. For example - I am at the bank today - making a (ahem) LARGE deposit into our wedding account and that spurs the "Awwww how sweet" comments from the bank tellers (all women of course). They offer their congrats and I am on my way right? Nope. I don't get 2 steps and I get another comment out of the blue - "Don't do it". Again - no biggie - that's not the first time I heard that. But when I turned to look who said it - you should have seen the fear in this mans eyes!

You know all good advice is great - until you take it. You know why - because then its not advice anymore. Its your decision or road to live or die with. But that's just it - its PERSONAL to YOU. Just because something doesn't work for YOU doesn't mean it won't work for anyone else. Stop throwing your fears onto other people.

Don't get me wrong - I am no fool. I know the statistics. I know the cultural issues, I KNOW THIS IS NOT GOING TO BE EASY. I get that. But its not impossible - in fact its far from impossible. I believe that in my heart. Thats part of the solution -on how I make this work. If I go in with doubts - WHAT KIND OF PLAN IS THAT? I'll tell you.. a dumb one.

It's cool to say "be careful", "communicate", "never go to bed angry", etc., etc.. But to be flat out "don't do it"? That super wack - and cowardly if you ask me. Like if marriage is not CURRENTLY working out for you - Do something about it! But don't expect it to be some full fledged curse against human race. If marriage didn't work for you in the past - ok fine - time to move on. Let's not project the negative spirit that killed that relationship into another one. Give me all the things to look out for - but don't fear me into some corner. Alright!?!

I AM ABOUT TO DO THIS!!! AND BE GOOD AT IT IF I SAY SO MYSELF and if you aren't with that here is a little advice.

AWWW HELL NAW! - This is not how you RSVP to a wedding!

Ok so I am posting this.. but I am not BROADCASTING this one like I normally do. But whatever. Anyway Aliah and I are getting our wedding invites back as of last week and enjoying opening them up seeing who can and can't make the trip and who at least took the time to let us know. We appreciate it - really.

But today - I get the mail and there is this big YELLOW envelope addressed to me - and its slightly transparent so I am thinking - What kind of dummy wouldn't just use the RSVP envelope we sent? Right?

So I open it and find all of what you see in the picture above. Not only did this person TEAR UP our precious invitation (these were NOT cheap!), they took the time to sit down TYPE and PRINT a FULL PAGE BIG TEXT NOTE insulting the thought that we even invited them. THEN they put it in a big yellow envelope and used 2 MORE stamps to send it back to us in disdain (and they are not gangster because it would have been if they would have used the stamp from the RSVP note to do it -now THAT would have been gangster!).

So I am looking at this and there is a part of me that feels like I should be REALLY offended. But surprisingly I am just stuck at "wow" and "for real?" and "seriously?". Its another one of those "who does this?" kind of moments. I mean its funny really (I already called Aliah and had a BIG LAUGH about this one) - but then again, its not because at the end of the day its still at its core - rude.

I am sure the person that did this is well aware of it too. Because for all of the tearing and pasting and taping. They made SURE to not send the addressee piece of the envelope back to us -so we wouldn't figure out who did it. But that sad part about that is..they sent just enough for us to piece it all together (pun intended).

Anyway. I vented. I feel better now.

I am not going to say much. Just watch this guy go on and on. My absolute favorite part is not the rebuttals by Roland Martin (those were expected) but the look of complete disbelief by David Gergen (for those of you who don't know he is the white man all the way on the left).

No Excuses for Bad Satire disguised as Comedy

Ok so when is are extreme right, conservative media, or even shock jocks like Rush Limbaugh going to held accountable for their divisive innuendo.

The image above was a reference to recently passed Stimulus BIll widely referred to as owned by Pres. Obama. I can see (in a very very very far fetched way) how this can simply be meant to say the people (or person most directly responsible) for the Stimulus package could be compared to a "crazed" primate (more specifically the one who critically injured a woman in California a few days back). However, regardless of the intent of this cartoon - someone, ANYONE with any shred of intelligence should have known how BADLY this could potentially be interpreted in an offensive manner.

Let's be real. Regardless of whether or not we agree with political commentators or news outlets. We must all agree that the people there have SOME reasonable level of intelligence. Its not only inferred by required in most cases to even be employed by one of them. So I think that they have to be held to a certain (and frankly higher) standard than the average hick or angry blogger exercising their first amendment rights. To put it simply - THESE PEOPLE SHOULD KNOW BETTER.

Taking a step further. While the artist (Sean Delona) may have some freedoms here to create whatever he wants (although that doesn't give him a pass either). I would expect that the news outlet (in this case the New York Post) would also know better than to put this out without expecting a backlash.

So that leads me to this. Any apology that they might offer up to me is at is very best intent - still a complete lie. I am sure they put this out to inspire anger and publicity as a by product. Knowing full well that profit is there any (because I doubt good journalism is) - I understand why they would put this out.

But with every dollar comes consequences - and I hope that the Obama Administration will adopt an policy of not granting any interviews or answering any questions at any time during this first term (yeah I said it - FIRST TERM) from the New York Post. Let them understand that while we all have free speech. Some times its in your best interest to watch what you say.

Well people - its here. It happened. History passed right in front of your own eyes - and the whole world for that matter. What does it feel like? Me - well I have bought into everything that was told to me this campaign season - I believe that a serious prospect for Hope and Change has come. I look forward to doing my part in helping that hope become reality and Change a process completed.

The problem is that I am not so much worried about myself as I am the rest of the world. I hope that they really "get it" too? I see a lot of celebrating - but I am not sure everyone is on board for the tough times too. You ever brought home that new flashy ride - and everybody wants to take a spin? Then when it comes time to ante up on gas money - every one is broke? Yeah it kind of feels like that. A lot of coat-tail riding until the rainy day comes along - then its every man for himself. The sad truth is that will not work - not at all.

But I remain hopeful.

I hope that people will not only expect more - I hope they do more and be more than what they already are.

I hope that people let the past rest in history books and instead focus on forging a much more historic future.

I hope that in the near future - politics as usual means compromises and solutions. Not debated bickering and delayed bailouts. There is nothing wrong with being the "loyal opposition". But the point is to get something important done - at least once a year.

I hope that family has a lot less to do with courts, custody, and checks -and a lot more to do with community, caring, and courage (to tough it out and make it work).

I hope for my single friends that dating will not just be about good sex and conversation (or the lack thereof). Expect more - you deserve it. If you settle for less - again - you deserve it.

I hope that my married friends and I - learn to remember what brought us together with our spouse and the oath that we take. So when the "for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health" comes - you are prepared to do what you pledged - stay the course vs. bouncing like a bad check.

I hope that ridiculously sagging jeans are on the way out right along with ridiculously tight jeans (sorry - but I really do. Ok Ok Ok -- I am not sorry - there I said it). Things are best done in moderation. Seriously.

I hope that people will stop criticizing proposed solutions and disguising it as conservatism. If you don't have a better alternative, don't complain about the one of the table. Go out and come up with a plan of ACTION on your own and bring it to the table.

I hope that someone recognizes soon you cannot win a war on terrorism nor can you win a war with terrorism as your tactic. Killing innocent people never furthers your cause. It only strengthens the opposition to it.

I hope the auto industry learns there is profit in focusing on what people need - not just what you tell them they want.

I hope Senate Democrats remember (soon) that many of them road the coattails of this new President into office - and show a some more respect and appreciation. Let's keep it real. You know you owe that man your job.

More than anything. I hope that 4 years from now we are in much better space. And that I can again hope for bigger and better horizons. Not simply because I keep shooting for the stars. But because we will have conquered our problems collectively and moved on to a better future.

An very inspirational man - Dong Yun Yoon.

You may have saw the news story about the F-18 crash out in San Diego, CA that killed 4 people 2 women and 2 small girls. Well all of them were the family of one man Dong Yun Yoon..

Now we have all experience death - and I would never minimize anyone elses loss. But this man lost his wife and 2 young daughters and mother in law in the blink of an eye. Gone. I can't imagine losing anyone that close to me right now - let alone 4 people that close to me in one moment.

Its obvious that there is some negligence on the part of the U.S. Navy or Boeing (St. Louis based manufacturer) - for what appears to be an complete engine failure.

It would have been easy - and COMPLETELY justified for Mr. Yoon to break into an angry tirade against the US Government, Military, the manufacturer, and even the pilot. But this man --this man -- his first words? They were words of forgiveness, kindness, and grace. A manner in which I have not seen in a very long time. He asked for prayers for the well being of the downed pilot and even honored him as "national treasure"

before announcing that he didn't blame him at all.

I personally stand in awe of his strength to be so forgiving in the face of something that so easily could feed anger. He reminds me of the story of Job in the bible. His faith unwavering even when it seemed like God had forsaken him.

In this day and age of bailouts, welfare, recession, cutbacks, gimme, gimme, gimme etc. - This man makes me remember that you ought to be VERY thankful for what you DO have. Stop complaining about what you don't have - and spend that energy getting it for yourself. Tell the people you love - that you love them. Today. Not when they are gone -Which could be tomorrow.

My father told me once - "whenever you are having a bad day - just think SOMEBODY out there is has it worse than you."

I kind of feel like that now. Are times rough. Yes. They could be worse - a lot worse. What am I gonna do about it?

My prayers go out to Mr. Yoon - his surviving family members and those that have passed on - Young Mi(Lee) Yoon , Grace Yoon and Rachel Yoon. I pray that he has strength in this time and going forward - and hope that someday he knows that he was a blessing to a lot of people - for reminding us to be thankful for what we have.

This is a new topic for us here at Superill - the dummy of the day. This award will be given at random to individuals who not only commit but EXCEED the threshold for stupidity in their actions. Make no mistake NO ONE is above being a winner of the DUMMY OF THE DAY award - please watch your actions because - THIS TO COULD BE YOU.

Our first winner:

Illinois Govenor Rod Blagojevich!

Why you ask? If you have been anywhere near a T.V. today you know that Gov. Blago (as he is "affectionately" called) was picked up by the FEDS early this morning. What did he do to get an early morning wake up call from the G-Men? This DUMMY tried to sell off a Seat to the UNITED STATES SENATE!

Now all of that was ENOUGH for a DUMMY OF THE DAY nomination. But this is SUPERILL and we want 110%. So like we said you must not only commit the act but EXCEED the threshold of stupidity! Let's outline what got the good ole' Governor across the line - shall we?

#1) HE TRIED TO SELL A US SENATE SEAT! - (sorry but that was so dumb we had to say it again).

#2) He tried to sell the seat vacated by Pres. Elect Barack Obama. If there is one vacant seat in the world OTHER than the one in the Oval Office that Obama is ABOUT to fill (we know Dubya is still in office but you know how "absent" minded he is) - ITS THE ONE THAT HE JUST GOT OUT OF!!! HELLO!??!? Bueller!

#3) In the last 50 years of Illinois politics - there have been four other Governors. Want to know how many of them went to jail for corruption? - ALL OF THEM! So nobody really should have needed to pass a memo or at least a 2nd grade note that said - THE DAMN FEDS ARE WATCHING. Don't do anything stupid! - Signed "the Feds".

#4) Of the 6 years the Governor was in office - want to know how many he was KNOWINGLY under investigation? 5 years. The man gets elected in 02 ousting a GOP candidate who was going to jail for corruption. 1 year later he is under investigation for corruption (misuse of State property/resources)..But does he slow down.. OH NO.. NOT OUR WINNER - he goes and tries to sell off the highest profile piece of political leverage the state has ever known!

#5) To top it off - the man was being wire tapped - and knew it - and STILL said all of the stuff that got him caught up (and his wife, friends, and staffers so far). Then he goes on T.V. and pratically DARES the Feds to come and get him. I don't know about you but if I did something shady and the feds were watching across the street. I am not going to do anything to provoke them - right?

In search of "Black Love"

Its no secret. Aliah and I take great pictures (LOL) - and yes we do have a great relationship (wedding bells ringing!) - but I often wonder why we end up the local poster children for "black love". I mean don't get me wrong - we appreciate all of the positive support, compliments and all. Its just that sometimes people make me feel like what we have is not just rare but almost impossible to attain.

Do you really believe that?

Think about it. Most references to black love these days aren't really about its existence but rather the lack thereof. Articles are all about how to find it (is it lost?), and how to make the best of it (is it sub-par somehow?), what to do in its absence (inter-racial dating tips?), etc. etc. etc. - I don't really believe all of that. I don't think that any of us are that forgone that we can't have "black love" or any love for that matter. Instead I think the problem is that well - we are too focused on "the problem."

Its kind of like being in a pool for the first time. When you jump in your mind is telling you that you will drown - so you freak out. When the truth is the - you are actually surrounded by something that is key to you very existence and if you let it do what it do and act accordingly it not only can keep you afloat. It can keep you alive. Funny right?

To keep it on water references - I think people really are TOO FOCUSED on the glass being half empty rather than being half full. Most of the time is spent complaining about what's wrong with your potential partners as opposed to exploring whats right with them. We're always on the lookout for the first sign of trouble - so much we probably miss the bright lights of opportunity in the people we meet.

If you really think about it -your top 10 list of goals/attributes for a potential mate is actually more of of constraint than a guide. It seriously limits your options. You are practically running a persons resume as they approach you. Some of the most successful pairings are people that you wouldn't ever consider viable mates. But in the end they work. What if those people had been as closed minded? Hmmm...

(Ok maybe not that last one...)

It is true that both sides really need to step it up on the interpersonal skils (yes both sides) but I think there needs to be a "return to basics" for the masses. Really get back to getting to know people vs. meeting potential sutors. Everyone is not a candidate for husband/wife. It takes time to figure that out. And you can't figure it out overnight (especially in bed).

Black Love is not a commodity. Its not this rare gem that you can't find in everyday life. Its not the impossible dream or reserved for Hollywood hills

Nor the White House

Black Love just like any love is all around you. It requires risks and faith. Support and communication. An open mind and an open heart. If you don't have these things - black love won't be the only thing you are missing out on.
